AllianceSports Reestablishes Subscription Model
BRENTWOOD, TN (7/2/01) -- AllianceSports, subsequent to its acquisition of major assets of Rivals.com, has completed its launch of its "Premium Ticket" services, and firmly reestablished itself as the leader in subscription-based online college sports and recruiting content.
"With the help of outstanding work by our publishers, we are dramatically exceeding our estimates for number of subscriptions," stated Jerry Cover, CEO of AllianceSports. "We sold several thousand subscriptions in just the first few days online, and more than tripled our projections for June. We fully expect to continue this outstanding growth as we further expand our network and provide additional services to our readers and publishers."
AllianceSports, prior to its purchase by Rivals.com in January 2000, provided subscription-based services for a regional network of college and recruiting sites, primarily focused in the Southeast. With its subsequent purchase of the Rivals.com assets, and its successful relaunch of the Rivals.com/AllianceSports network on a nationwide scale, AllianceSports, with over 55 college sites, 8 national and regional recruiting sites, and nearly 30 high school sites, has established itself as a clear leader in premium content and subscription-based services for online sports publications.
"This is nothing new to us. We proved this subscription model before with AllianceSports, prior to the sale to Rivals," said Greg Gough, co-founder of the original AllianceSports, now Chief Technology Officer of the new AllianceSports/Rivals.com network. "We believe that subscription models are essential in the further growth of the Internet. Advertising is a piece of our plan, and we are already generating revenue from it, but it has historically been unreliable and definitely unpredictable, and we certainly don't wrap our business model around it."
